Maze's first word

...was "Elmo".

And I have proof.

It all started the other day when Brent, my MIL, Maze and I went to Barnes and Noble. Clara Mae's first birthday is coming up this month and I wanted to show Brenda some of the toys I liked for Maze. I really like the "pretend" play toys. Wooden toys. Puppets. Puzzles. Blocks. Stuff like that.

When we were walking around Clara started bouncing and freaking out. We saw the Elmo stuffie on the shelf, so we handed to her to play with while we contemplated our next move shopping-wise. We decided to move on to the next store, but when we went to take Elmo away from Maze, she retaliated. Screamed. Hugged Elmo so tight there was no way we were ever going to get it away from her. After a minor struggle, we were able to break Elmo free from her grasp and move on.

I wanted to buy her the toy right then. She's never shown that kind of interest in ANYTHING before. It was as if she recognized him. She LOVED Elmo and I took him away. But I don't want her to be one of those kids who throws a tantrum at the store because she isn't getting what she wants. I don't want to spoil her. And because she threw a fit over this toy, I wasn't going to buy it for her. Not right then.

We left the store and she soon forgot all about Elmo.

A few days later, Brent and I were out running errands without the baby and we found the Elmo stuffie again. I came prepared with a 30% off coupon and Brent had offered to use his allowance to buy the toy.

We video taped her reaction:

This is the first toy we've bought for her since Christmas. We don't want to spoil her too much, but we are SO thrilled we got Elmo for her.

Elmo sleeps with her. She drags him around by his foot. He's been chewed on. Spit on. He's shared her zippy cup.

I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship, don't you?
